Website News...
We've had a couple of people write us recently to tell us they're having trouble reading some of the text on the site because of the colors being used. Although I'm investigating this already, if you're having a similar problem please let us know - along with the type of monitor (CRT, flat screen or notebook) you're using to access the site. Also, please let us know which colors are giving you the most trouble.

Our first auction has now been completed, and by the response from those who attended it was a success. Our next auction is planned for sometime in May 2002 so keep checking back for details. Right now we're busy contacting winning bidders and delivering purchased auction items, so if I don't get another chance before we shut down for inventory, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR from everyone at Cherry's!

Page Changes...
You'll notice some changes over at our inventory pages. I've divided our standard inventory into "handgun" and "long gun" sections, which should help make some things easier to find (the pages are smaller, so they should load a little faster too). I'll be splitting the remaining inventory between Commemoratives and non-gun items later this week, so in all we'll have 4 total inventory pages when I'm finished.

Latest Happenings...
We just received an e-mail this morning informing us that our dial-up service provider has been gobbled-up by Earthlink/Mindspring (who apparently are determined to become the "NationsBank" of dial-up providers). What impact this will have on our web-hosting service and e-mail accounts is as yet unknown, because I haven't been able to get hold of anyone at either location that seems to know anything useful. The switchover is supposed to take place September 1st, and if everything goes smoothly (heh) there should be no disruption of service. Technically speaking our web-hosting service should not be affected, but since it's currently tied together with our dial-up account, I'm inclined to expect the worst :)
Stay tuned...

Please check out the latest inventory updates, as well as our new pages for the Shoshone Indian Tribute, Pat Garrett "Famous Lawmen" Edition, and the Marlin/Frankonia 1894 offering.

New Updates...
I've updated the inventory pages, deleting some sold items and adding quite a few new entries to the main inventory page. I also updated the Commemorative page, adjusting prices on quite a few items.
Are you an "Outlaw"?
About three years ago, a computer game by Lucas Arts named "Outlaws" was introduced to excellent reviews. A bunch of us played it on-line for a looong time, even going as far as to form "posses" or gangs that competed in on-line tournaments. The original game is still going strong, and with so many "gun" people owning computers now-a-days I think it would be a natural for all those hombres interested in a computer game that depicts the weapons and flavor of the Old West. A friend of mine that goes by the name of "Paleface" has a web site dedicated to the original game, and he's currently collecting signatures to try and convince Lucas Arts to produce an "Outlaws 2". If any of this sounds interesting to you, please check out the original game (which is still widely available at now bargain prices), then head on over to Palefaces site and sign the petition.

Snowbound!
In case you're wondering why we're not answering the phone today...it's because no one's there (hehe). We got about a foot of snow here last night, which in the South pretty much shuts everything down (which is probably a GOOD thing because most of us can't drive in it anyway). I got the car dug out earlier - but without a four-wheel-drive I can't even get off my street. In the meantime, you can check out the inventory page, which was updated again last night. Here's a pic of the conditions at my house this morning.

More updates...
I'm still working on the main inventory page, and as soon as I'm caught up on the entries there I'll start updating the picture links (of which there are many). I have some more guns to add to inventory page three, and hopefully I'll get those in by this weekend.
I've had a few people with Web TV complain about problems accessing certain pages on the site, but I'm at a loss as to why. With the traffic on the net nowadays, it's not unusual to have pages refuse to connect on the first try every once in a while (it even happens to me, and I have a pretty fast ADSL service). If you find a repeatable loading problem with any of the pages here, please e-mail me with as much detail as possible.
Just a quick reminder: The guns listed on our Commemorative page are NOT necessarily in-stock items, but a comprehensive list of factory commemoratives made since 1961 (consider it a reference source). To see what we actually have, please visit our Inventory pages.

Update on the updating...
I've finally had some time to go back through the inventory pages and delete a lot of stuff we sold during Christmas. I'll be working off and on during the week to add in some new items, so keep checking back.
| Oct. 20, 1999 |
Even More Updates!
I've deleted more sold items from both inventory pages in an effort to keep them current. The third inventory page should be going up by this weekend.
We've been getting a lot of calls regarding the recent Colt news that has everyone wondering what the heck is going on. For those of you who like to get your information straight from the "horses" mouth, you can go here to read Colt's latest news releases.
| Oct. 14, 1999 |
More Updates!
The handgun picture links on Inventory Page 2 are now working. I just went through both pages and deleted some sold items, so they're pretty much up-to-date. Inventory Page 3 will be going up in about 7 to 10 days. It will be an all long gun page from the same collection. Stay tuned....
| Oct. 3, 1999 |
Inventory Updated!
The handguns from a large, recently acquired consignment collection are now up here. I don't have the picture links working yet, but there's instructions on the page about how to manually access them. I broke the inventory page into multiple pages for two reasons: 1) It was going to be a MAJOR pain to re-type everything, and 2) The combined page would have been incredibly HUGE and taken forever to load. Enjoy!
| Sept. 28, 1999 |
More Inventory Updates Soon!
Starting in a few days you're going to see a HUGE increase in our inventory page. We just picked up a large consignment collection and I'll start putting up the handguns by this weekend. Long guns are still about two weeks away from being ready for sale. I won't have any other information regarding these guns until they're posted, so PLEASE don't call asking what we have....there's just too many to discuss via phone. They'll be up when they're UP :). I may even have to split the inventory page into two sections after loading all this stuff, but I won't know that until everything's in. Stay tuned......
| July 22, 1999 |
Even More Updates....
You'll notice a few changes around the site. I added a Book Center page after we received more than several pieces from a few different collections. I also updated the Inventory page - including some recent price reductions. Enjoy :)
| May 12, 1999 |
More Updates....
I now have the first Commemorative picture links hooked up, so you'll be able to see images of guns we've had available to photograph so far. We'll be adding additional shots as we get guns, and if course if any of you have any nice shots of the harder to find ones we'll be happy to use them :). I'll also shortly be adding new pages regarding our NRA National Firearms Museum Springfield Trapdoor offering, as well as info on the new line of Rutten Air Guns we just started stocking.

Another Server Change
We are now hooked up with a faster, more reliable web-hosting facility. I know the site has been up and down a LOT lately, so hopefully this will fix any further outages for a while. We've just moved everything in here to the new server, so you're probably going to see some slightly weird stuff until I get all the links working again. It seems the file upload feature of FrontPage likes to play around with the case (CAPS or non) of all the file names, which makes for some interesting results. Don't bother writing in to tell me about broken links for at least a few days 'till I have a chance to go through the site again. I have updated the inventory page and you'll see a few new product pages very soon (and yes, I'm still working on getting some commemorative pictures up for you to look at - it shouldn't be much longer).
| March 9, 1999 |
Lights......Camera.......Action!
Our on-line Inventory page is now chock-full of pictures, waiting anxiously for your mouse - so go click 'em! The Commemorative photos are just about ready, and should be up for viewing by this weekend. We're still tweaking this whole picture thing, so if you have any suggestions (or complaints) don't hesitate to write us. I'm still not sure how I'm going to fit the links for the pictures in on the Commemorative page, so it looks like we're ALL in for a surprise! :)
| February 28, 1999 |
Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!!!
Ok..... maybe NOT rumble, but we're shaking things up a bit here VERY soon! Starting in the next few days, you'll be able to pull up PHOTOS of almost everything Cherry's has in it's inventory........... INCLUDING pics of most of the Commemoratives (woo-hoo!). Final prep work is being done on the pics now, and they should be up and linked very soon. That means you'll be able to go to our inventory page, pick a gun off the list, and actually SEE what you're buying! Just look for links imbedded in the text, and CLICK!

Another Inventory Update!
I've updated the Inventory Page again - a lot of stuff has been added, so make sure to check it out. As you might know by now, we will be closed from 12 noon December 24th until January 4th while we do inventory, play with all our new toys and in MY case - nap ;) This will probably be the last update before the holidays, so have a great Christmas and we'll see ya in '99!
| November 29, 1998 |
Yah Yah Yah ....
I know it's been a while since the last news update, so since it's almost Christmas this one's going to be a biggie. Please be sure to check for specials on the Pedersoli Page, an extra-special 1873 we just whipped up for ya, and price reductions on our Deluxe Trapdoor and Engraved & Gold Inlaid Model 94's. I've also updated the Inventory Page, and took the music off the Commemorative Page so hopefully fewer of you will choke on it now (hehe). Also be sure to start checking the scrolling text applet on the Main Page for the most recent news and additions - just wait for what you wanna see and click on it (simple, no?). I'll probably be adding more Java stuff as time goes by, mainly 'cause there's an awful lot you can do with it. In keeping with the fine old Cherry's web page tradition, however, you won't see a lot of bloated code here - I make every effort to keep the pages as simple as possible. Please let me know if you have trouble retrieving ANYTHING from our site, and I'll do my best to correct it. Just make sure to let me know what page you're having trouble with, as well as your system config (CPU and ram, etc...) and what browser you're using. Oh, btw ...... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
... and to all the Gang ... :P

New Stuff Cometh!
As you might have guessed by now, I'm starting to put in the Pedersoli pics and descriptions on a daily basis now, and with any luck it should all be in place soon. I'm still making a few last minute decisions about the layout (as well as trying to get the pics done), so bear with me a few more days. You'll also notice a new spot on our front page for something called "The San Juan Hill Artillery Revolver". I'll have the info on that up as soon as I finish off the Pedersoli stuff......
April 05, 1998 |
New Happenings .....
So many people have been viewing and printing out our inventory page I've decided to try a little experiment. Starting today you'll be able to get the inventory list in Adobe PDF format, which will make for a MUCH smaller download. You will need to get the reader first, but believe me it's worth it. So much PDF stuff is showing up on the net these days it's a nice little program to have.......and best of all it's FREE! Get the inventory PDF here. If you like the addition let me know :-)
More New Happenings .....
Cherry's is picking up most of Pedersoli's product line, and shortly I will have a copy of their catalog up in PDF format. In the mean-time, you can either view what we have by checking the inventory page, or if you want some pictures check the Pedersoli web site. I also have them listed on our links page. A 60 page full-color Pedersoli catalog is also available from us for $5.00 (If you want to pick one up in person it's $3.00).
March 01, 1998 |
Links Page Updated .....
I finally got around to updating our links page today, but I have to admit I'm not sure I got everybody.
You see, I have these HUGE piles of papers and notes and stuff in my room here and ...
well, you get the idea <g>. If I've missed anyone who's sent in an e-mail wanting to
link to our site, please re-submit it and I'll try not to lose it
this time....
Price Adjustments .....
We've already had some price changes on our inventory page so you might want to check it out again. In short, we got authorization to reduce a few of our consignments, so we're passing the savings on to you!
February 22, 1998 |
New Stuff!
I'm pleased to announce that through the miracle of modern technology (and the DOS magic of Paula Tuggle - Kevin's wife), Cherry's inventory is available for you to peruse on-line. We're still tweaking things out a bit, so hang in there while we whip it into shape. The basic problem was a solution to using our current accounting software (which is older than dirt) and converting it into something that could be posted as HTML. Once we get the bugs worked out it should be a weekly update :)
Other news ...
Sales of our 125th Anniversary guns are already going briskly, so if you're still trying to decide which one you want, don't take too long <g>. The finished pages are up now, so go have a look!
Lastly ...
I am planning on updating the links page soon, so if you've sent us any requests lately please be patient. Getting the rest of this stuff up has been time-consuming, but hopefully I'll be able to finish the updates soon (this IS primarily a gaming computer, ya know :)
February 15, 1998 |
Updates .....
I'm in the final stages of posting the new pages on our 125th Anniversary Editions of the 1873 Lever Action and Trapdoor Springfield. I've had some problems with the scans this time around because of the quality of the prints I had to work with. I should have everything in place in the next few days, so check back. Also make sure to call or e-mail for a brochure if you're interested, because the brochure shots came out much nicer and do a better job of showing off how beautiful these rifles truly are.
Welcome CCA!
There's a new site up that you simply must check out! It's dedicated to the Colt Collectors Association and can be found here. It's chock-full of news about the CCA, and even has a membership form you can print out and mail in. I'll be adding a permanent link to the links page as soon as I update it (soon).
| November 22, 1997 |
Important (and very sad) news .....
Today I'll be posting the text portion of a page that I'd hoped I'd never have to do. It's a memorial to Robert E. P. Cherry, who passed away October 31st. Kevin has written a few words in his behalf, and you will find the page here. I'll have the accompanying photo up as soon as I have one to scan....... I only knew Bob a few short years, but he was a great guy to talk to and be around. He will truly be missed..........
| November 19, 1997 ..... "Whew!" |
Well, it's like this .....
Today I was finally able to get into our web site for the first time in over two weeks. It's a long story, but the end result is that we're on a new server with MUCH more room than we had before. The bad news is, if you've sent us any e-mail since October 31st, you'll have to send it again. That's when our contract expired with our previous host ... and although we were supposed to be up and running with the new server by November 1, the great lords at Internic didn't get around to switching our domain address until yesterday. That means that although you were able to see our site (it was still up on the old server), we weren't getting any of our mail. I lost ftp access to the old site on the 31st, so I wasn't able to go in and change our e-mail link to the new forwarding address. It HAS been a mess, and all I can do is apologize to the folks who've been trying to e-mail in. I still have plans on changing this site soon, and now that we're on a "friendlier" server many new things will be possible. As far as Internic goes ...... well, all I have to say is that after dealing with them by fax, phone and e-mail multiple times over the past few weeks, I'm really surprised the web works as well as it does .........
New stuff .....
I still plan on making some changes to the site soon, but they won't be as radical as originally intended. I'm going to start by replacing some of the IE specific thingys (like the scrolling marquees) with Java-based applets that will appear identical on both IE and Netscape. I'd also like to do something with the LOOK of the site in general, but so far I haven't come up with any ideas that are cool enough to warrant the change. I've thought about going to frames, but I don't really like the way it cuts down the size of the main page. Anyway, I'll be working on the site now almost nightly for a while, so check back often to keep up with the changes.
