FINE GUNS

All Handgun Owners & Purchasers Please Read!

On April 24th a new law went into effect. It is called the Child Safety Lock Act of 2005. The law requires that all licensed dealers must sell modern handguns with a gunlock. This is for new handguns as well as used handguns.

There are still some bugs to be worked out as ATF does not have all the answers as of this writing. For purchasers of handguns within North Carolina, ATF will allow you to bring in your own gunlock when we deliver your handgun to you. But, you must physically bring in the gunlock when you take delivery of your handgun. Otherwise, you will be required to buy a gunlock from Cherry's before the handgun can be delivered. Most of the new handguns coming out today already have a gunlock in the box. But, all the used handguns mostly do not have a gunlock.

For handguns we sell out of state, the handgun must be delivered to a transfer dealer. You will need to inform Cherry's whether or not you intend to purchase a gunlock from Cherry's or from the transfer dealer. Either way, a gunlock must be purchased unless you physically bring in your gunlock to the transferring dealer when you take delivery of the handgun at his place of business.

For those people who have guns on consignment with Cherry's and decide to have their handgun returned to them, the new law also requires you to either physically bring in a gunlock or purchase a gunlock before we can transfer the gun back into your name. We understand that this does not seem fair, but the feds are requiring this of us.

The only exception to this rule so far, are sales between FFL holders and sales of curio and relic guns to FCL holders. We will keep you informed as the ATF publishes their final findings and exceptions.
